Charmoix is a delicate washed rind cheese from the Ardennes in East Belgium. Made from raw cow’s milk from the cooperative, Charmoix is washed with brine and aged for 3 months. The result is a thin orange-rinded cheese with a semi soft, thick, creamy interior. Flavors and aromas of fruit, hay, yeast and mushrooms along with a silky lactic finish make this a winning cheese. Charmoix is pretty perfect on its own, so we don’t recommend any accompaniment other than crusty bread or a simple cracker. Pair with a Belgian lambic-style beers, sparkling wine or a Côtes du Rhone or Arbois red.
La Fermière de Méan is a cooperative that was created in 1986 to market quality organic Belgian products. The cooperative first sold the products of member producers in the region's markets. In 1990, La Fermière de Méan started producing its own cheeses from the milk of member farmers. Today they make nearly 20 cheeses.
