Like its cousin Brie, Camembert is a cheese that varies greatly in quality. But we think it’s safe to say that this Camembert from Rodolphe Le Meunier – named both the best cheesemonger in France as well as the best in the entire world – is as good as it gets. A third-generation cheese producer, Le Meunier is an affineur extraordinaire, and he’s given extra care to this legendary surface-ripened AOC cheese from Normandy.
Camembert is inoculated with more culture than brie, which gives it a richer, deeper, more mushroomy flavor. Crafted in the Loire Valley, this cheese is mild and perfectly crowd-pleasing, with a creamy texture that gets more and more oozy and decadent as it ages. It’s a versatile cheese for pairing, and is at home on just about any cheese board alongside crusty baguette slices, fresh fruit, cured meats, roasted nuts, and honey or fruit preserves.
