Grass Fed Beef - Gourmet Guide
June 12, 2019 | By Dave Mattingly
Grass Fed Beef is beef from cattle that were raised on a diet of primarily grass or pasture. There are striking differences between the nutritional content of Grass Fed Beef compared to grain-fed beef. Research suggests that Grass Fed Beef has more beta carotene, Vitamin E and Omega-3 fatty acids (a heart healthy good fat), and is lower in calories and fat than ordinary beef. Grass Fed Beef also has more CLA (conjugated linoleic acid) a type of fat believed to reduce heart disease and cancer risks. Grass Fed Beef also contains a more vibrant flavor, and is more tender and juicy than regular beef, due to the terrain, soil and water on which the Grass Fed cattle graze.
In addition to the health benefits of Grass Fed Beef, it is important to note that Grass Fed Beef cattle are raised more humanely by ranchers that are usually independently owned or part of a local production group. Grass Fed cattle also have a milder impact on the environment, as Grass Fed Beef cattle preserve vegetation and improve soil fertility. Waste management issues that arise from grain-fed cattle are also reduced, if not eliminated.
