Packed in a beautiful glass muth jar (named after 1800's beekeeper Charles Muth of Ohio), this bottle is hand-sealed with a cork and dipped in wax. Perfect as a hostess gift or for a honey lover's birthday or special occasion. Raw buckwheat honey has a deep, dark brown color, a strong, molasses-like earthy flavor and is high in mineral content and antioxidant compounds. This is perfect for sauces, glazing pork roasts, or using in place of molasses or treacle for baking. We especially love it with salty, cave-aged blue cheeses or washed-rind cheeses. The strong flavor of Buckwheat honey is perfect when you need a sweetener with some backbone to stand up to other bold flavors.
One of our favorite honey producers is just a few towns over from our igourmet.com offices. Hannah Perry’s family is fourth generation beekeepers, with Hannah’s great-great grandfather starting the tradition by keeping bee hives in the 1800's. The Perry’s family farm is known as Perry Apiaries and Hannah launched her brand, The Beekeeper's Daughter, when she saw a local demand for raw honey. Today Perry Apiaries has 3000 hives, which they move from Pennsylvania to Florida to keep the bees busy all winter. All the honey produced by Beekeeper's Daughter is always raw and unfiltered so it still contains all of the pollen, enzymes, propolis, vitamins, amino acids, minerals, and antioxidants naturally found in the hive.
- No honey should be fed to infants 12 months or younger.
