Grissini are a gastronomic specialty of Turin and its surrounding area. The first record of Grissini production dates back to 1679, when chef Antonio Brunero of the royal court prepared it to meet a doctor's prescription made to Prince Victor Amadeus II of Savoia. Prince Amadeus II had a medical condition that made it hard for him to digest the soft part of the bread. Today, Grissini are still coveted for their ease of digestion and their long shelf life compared to ordinary bread.
