In Korea, Doenjang is a traditional fermented bean paste that is full of savory, umami-rich flavors. It is similar to a thicker, chunkier version of miso, but with a much deeper and stronger character. Since it is a paste, Doenjang's thick texture should be thinned with oil, stock or water to make a sauce or marinade.

Traditionally, Doenjang is used for making dipping sauces for vegetables, or as a base for soups and stews. Non-traditionally, its umami-rich qualities make it a perfect vegetarian alternative for recipes that call for anchovy paste. Use it to add depth to burgers, veggie burgers or pulled pork. Doenjang is also great in a marinade for vegetables before roasting. An optimal dip for raw or fried vegetables straight out of the tub.

Refrigerate after opening. The paste normally darkens after opening.
