Tomato Jam - Gourmet Guide

June 12, 2019 | By Dave Mattingly

Sweet Tomato Jam is a wonderful sweet and sour condiment for cheeses, meats and fish. Made from seasonal, vine-ripened tomatoes plus mouth-watering sugar, cinnamon and lemon rind, our Tomato Jam is carefully cultivated in the ecologically pure farmland of Alentejo, Portugal. Tomatoes have been used since the 1700s as condiments to desserts and as additives to syrups, and preserving tomatoes in the form of a jam or jelly reached its heyday in the mid 1900s. The base for Tomato Jam is made from nutritional powerhouse - the tomato. Tomatoes are filled with antioxidants, which help neutralize free radicals in the blood stream which are known to cause cell damage. Tomatoes also contain lycopene which may help reduce the risk for certain types of cancer. Tomatoes are high in vitamins and minerals, such as vitamins C and E, beta-carotene, potassium and manganese. Tomatoes contain Vitamin K and calcium which support bone health. Tomatoes also may help lower total cholesterol and maintain heart health.

Tomato Jam is delicious when served on a piece of crusty bread and with a sheep's milk cheese or when paired with a soft stinky cheese. Tomato Jam is an excellent substitute for ketchup when used on burgers. Or try Tomato Jam on your morning bagel. When used as a version of a sweet and sour sauce, Tomato Jam may be used as a condiment with fish, and pork, or try it as a dipping sauce. Once you try this unique sauce, you'll be sure to keep coming back for more!
